ABOUT US

Goal:

The Salisbury University Club Baseball Team was established in 2015 with the intention of providing Salisbury University students an opportunity to play baseball at a competitive, collegiate level. Through this team we are able to bring together a group of like-minded individuals connected through one common aspect: their love for the game of baseball. We intend to provide a fun environment for those who enjoy playing baseball while also working as hard as we possibly can to become a national powerhouse in the NCBA (National Club Baseball Association).

Requirements:

1. Full Time Student at SU (12 credits hours per semester)

2. Minimum of 2.0 GPA

3. Minimum of 2 practices/week to be game eligable.

4. Payment of player fee (roster players only)

Recognized Student Organization:

Unfortunately, we aren't recognized by the Salisbury University Athletic Department, but we are recognized as a Recognized Student Organization (RSO). This results in our governing body being the Student Governing Association (SGA) as opposed to the athletic department.

Funding:

We are largely a self funded club so we ask players to pay a players fee per semester of playing. Currently our fees are $150 for new players and $60 for returners. These fees go towards uniforms, hats, umpire fees, league fees, and hotels for away games. We also participate in SU Giving Day. This is a day where donations for all clubs, teams, and organizations at SU are doubled/tripled by alumni.

Roster:

As an RSO, we handle our roster differently than the varsity team. Per the NCBA, we can have a maximum roster size of 33. We can add players to the roster until we either reach the league cutoff date of April 15th or have filled the 33 spots. It is because of this that we add people to the roster on a running basis and don't make official cuts. If a player is not placed on the roster, they are essentially placed on the practice squad as they may still come to practices and team events, they will simply not be NCBA eligible to play in games.

Practices:

We practice almost every weekday from 3:30-5:30 either at our indoor facility or our practice field weather permitting. As a player, we make it mandatory for each player to make at least 2 practices during the week to be eligible for games that weekend.

Games:

We play in the Chesapeake South Conference of the Chesapeake Region in Division II of the NCBA. Our conference includes George Washington University, George Mason University, Mary Washington University, James Madison University, and Georgetown University. We play in a 15 game regular season ( 3 game series vs. each school) against these schools with the conference winner traveling to Purcellville, VA to compete in Regional Playoffs against the other conference winners in the Chesapeake Region. The winner of the Regional Playoffs will travel to the World Series in Pittsburg, KS to represent the Chesapeake Region and compete against schools from across the country for the National Championship. We play on average 25 games per season (Fall and Spring combined). Our games take place on weekends in order to focus on school work. Most commonly we play a double header on Saturdays and then a single game on Sundays.

Facilities:

As we are not apart of the athletic program, we don't get access to the same facilities as the varsity team has. However, with a great partnership with Bill Atkinson and the Fruitland Baseball Organization, we are allowed to use their fields and indoor facility for practices and games. In return, we hold clinics each semester for their organization to pass on and teach our baseball knowledge to the next generation of ball players.
